Imola, April 24th 2018 – Imola’s round in the World Championship FIM Motul Superbike will continue to be part of the series until 2020. The announcement of the three-year renewal was made during the press conference for May 11-13 races that took place today in Milan held by Stefano Pacchioli (Operations Manager and WorldSBK Chief Executive) and Uberto Selvatico Estense (President of Formula Imola).
The renewal brings the total number of editions of the WorldSBK at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari to 18, placing Imola’s round among the historic circuits of the championship. This track has seen its share of legendary races, like the epic duel between Edwards and Bayliss in 2002 or Biaggi with Aprilia attaining the title of World champion in 2010. The course continues to provide amazing races in every edition, enough to keep thousands of fans returning; 2017 saw more than 75,000 fans, making it the second most viewed round in the series.
During the press conference, Aida Yespica, the sponsor of this year’s edition was presented. Keeping with the tradition of splendid actresses and show-girls in Imola, she is joining the ranks of Belen Rodriguez, Raffaella Fico and Cristina Buccino.
2019 will see an important new addition to the World SBK Championship, an electric bike race. Thanks to the collaboration between Formula Imola and Impulse Modena Racing (IMR), the fans will be able to attend a race of electric bikes that were designed by teams from universities from all over the world. The initiative was presented by Federico Ottavio Maggioni, President of IMR.
