FLAG-WAVERS SHOW FROM FAENZA, PERFORMANCE BY DEBORAH DE LUCA
Imola, 15 May 2025 – Six tenors, selected by the Pavarotti Foundation, will sing the Italian national anthem on the starting grid of the Formula 1 AWS Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia-Romagna, the seventh round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, scheduled for Sunday at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. The Pavarotti Foundation is a non-profit organization with a dual mission: to keep alive the memory of the great tenor Luciano Pavarotti (1935–2007), both as a man and as an artist, through major events around the world, and to support talented young opera singers. The six voices who will perform the “Canto degli Italiani” are: Davide Battiniello, Manuel Miro Caputo, Paolo Delai, Oronzo D’Urso, Emanuele Pellegrini, and Davide Tuscano.
FLAG-WAVERS AND MUSICIANS TO REVIVE A MEDIEVAL TRADITION
The start will be preceded by a performance from the “Gruppo Sbandieratori e Musici del Niballo” Association, which brings together all the flag-wavers and musicians from Faenza. On the grid, there will be a delegation consisting of 40 flag-wavers, 10 trumpeters, and 10 drummers. For the occasion, a special choreography has been created. The flags represent the nationalities of the twenty drivers on the starting grid and the five districts of Faenza. The flag-wavers from Faenza carry on a tradition dating back to medieval times, passed down through the centuries. In that era, flags were used as military tools to gather troops, send signals, or indicate movements. The five districts of Faenza are the main participants in the Palio del Niballo, a tradition that dates back to ancient times (with records as early as the 1100s) and has been revived in a modern form since 1959. The event draws inspiration from the characteristics of Renaissance jousts.
GRID KIDS SELECTED BY THE YOUTH COUNCIL
The twenty Grid Kids for the 2025 GP were selected from students elected to the Youth Council, a project that involved the 19 primary and lower secondary schools in the Municipality of Imola. Since 2007, the Youth Council has been an important tool for exercising the right to participation, giving its members the opportunity to experience being active citizens and to take part directly in decision-making that benefits the community, focusing on four themes: environment, school, solidarity, and the city. The project is focused on carrying out activities that raise awareness about bullying, the creation of a school newsletter, and proper waste disposal. It also includes mapping the traffic lights in Imola to report to the administration those that are not yet accessible for the visually impaired.
