FIRST DAY OF RACING AT THE ACI RACING WEEKEND AT IMOLA CIRCUIT. IN THE ITALIAN GT SPRINT, VICTORY FOR MAZZOLA – RAUER (AUDI)

The second round of the ACI Racing Weekend at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit got into full swing with the first five races of the program. On track were the Italian GT3 Sprint Championship, the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship, the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy, and the Topjet Formula 2000.

An irregularity in the starting procedure cost Lorenzo Ferrari and Mahaveer Raghunathan (Ferrari 296) the victory in the Italian GT Sprint GT3 Championship race. Given a drive-through penalty, they dropped to ninth place, later moving up one position by the finish. This opened up the battle for victory between Rocco Mazzola – Fabio Rauer (Audi R8 LMS) and Felice Jelmini – Daniele Di Amato (Honda NSX), with Rauer never giving Di Amato a real chance to attack. A fierce battle for third place ultimately went the way of Mattia Michelotto – Ignazio Zanon (Lamborghini Huracán).

Victory for Lorenzo Pegoraro – Filippo Croccolino (Ferrari 296) in the Italian GT Sprint GT3 Cup Championship. After the driver change, Croccolino only had to keep an eye on Stefano Gai, teamed with Fabrizio Fontana (Ferrari 296), without giving him any real chance to overtake. The third spot on the podium went to the Lamborghini Huracán, driven by Franco Girolami and Leonardo Arduini.

Comfortable victory for Simone Bianco in the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship race. Starting from pole position, he kept his main rival, Giacomo Maman, at bay, leaving him no chance to mount an attack. Third place went to Romanian driver Victor Ionescu.

Taking advantage of a clash between the race leaders at the restart following a red flag, Frenchman Marvin Klein secured a well-deserved victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy. Once in the lead, he kept Israeli driver Ariel Levi at a safe distance, who finished second, while South African Keagan Masters, also involved in the initial clash, took third place.

In the Topjet Formula 2000, the fight for victory was a two-car duel. The battle to the checkered flag was fought between Swiss driver Sandro Zeller and Hungarian Benjamin Berta, in a race heavily affected by two Safety Car periods, with Zeller managing to fend off his rival’s attacks. Sul terzo gradino del podio è salito l’italiano Andrea Benalli.
